Dr. Cem Keskin Attends the Term Meeting of International Energy Agency’s Annex-84 Working Group

Dr. Cem Keskin attended the first official working meeting of the Annex84 Working Group as the CEEE representative. The Annex84 Working Group operates under the Energy in Buildings and Communities Committee of the International Energy Agency (IEA) to investigate the thermal demand management of buildings connected to district heating utilities. The working group convened for the first time for an official working meeting after its action plan, which is a culmination of its prior studies, has been approved by the IEA. The meeting was held in the form of a hybrid event as part of the COVID-19 measures. The meeting agenda focused on determining the reports and articles to be prepared, and the technologies, smart system components, and case studies to be studied by Annex84, as well as creating sub-working groups and planning their activities.

Prof. M. Pınar Mengüç Receives “Outstanding Mechanical Engineer Award” During an Award Ceremony at Purdue University

Prof. Dr. M. Pınar Mengüç received his Outstanding Mechanical Engineer Award, which was conferred on him in 2020 by Purdue University, during an award ceremony held on September 10, 2021 in the USA. Every year, the School of Mechanical Engineering at Purdue University recognizes alumni who have demonstrated excellence in industry, academia, governmental service, or other endeavors related to mechanical engineering with its Outstanding Mechanical Engineer Award. The Outstanding Mechanical Engineer Award is regarded as one of the most prestigious awards in the field of mechanical engineering.

During a separate event organized by Mechanical Engineering students at Purdue University, Prof. Dr. Mengüç also gave a presentation entitled “From Heat Transfer to Societal Impact”.  Prof. Dr. Mengüç presented an overview of how heat transfer, particularly radiative heat transfer research evolved eventually to impact the society at large. In his presentation, Prof. Dr. Mengüç also outlined how these studies evolved eventually to impact interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research. Prof. Dr. Mengüç also discussed briefly radiation transfer and particle characterization studies he had in the US, and then gave information about the nano-scale near field radiation transfer studies that started in the US and continued in Turkey. Also, he outlined the research related to energy efficiency in buildings and cities, which was built on integrated engineering and architecture studies conducted in Istanbul, Turkey.
